Travel

Thanks to a Teaching Institute grant from FIT, I was able to travel to a number of other countries while in Europe on this Fulbright project. My goal was to investigate how different cities view fashion, especially from the perspective of history. Do they have a museum specifically devoted to fashion? Do they showcase clothing in their art or history museums? Do they show as much menswear as women’s dress? Is it presented in a gendered way – is it more likely that you’ll see men in military dress than court dress?

These trips have been an invaluable part of my research – not just to see what treasures are in the museums, but what current trends are in museum exhibition design and presentation.
